Khan Book launching

On October 20, 2010, an event was held to officially launch the book Khans of Damascus: Participatory Management for Sustinable Improvement and Local Economic Development,“ The book was produced by Professor Sonja Nebel at the request of the Syrian-German Technical Cooperation’s Program for Sustainable Urban Development: Rehabilitation of the Old City of Damascus Project.

 

The event, attended by over 60 people, featured a welcome address by Eng. Amjad Al Riz (Director of the Old City of Damascus), and an introduction by Mr. Ulrich Malisius, manager of the Rehabilitation of the Old City of Damascus Project. The main lecture was delivered by the book’s author, Dr. Sonja Nebel (Professor of Architecture at the Technical University of Berlin), who discussed the book’s findings and the state of the Khans in the Old City of Damascus. Following this lecture, Eng. Abir Mansour of the Directorate of the Old City of Damascus gave a short presentation on the activities and results of the directorate’s Khan Team.
