Week of Sabils in Damascus old city
On Tuesday 9th of June, Damascus will witness a first of a kind week-long event fully dedicated to the old Damascene Sabils, under the sponsorship of the Damascus Governorate and the Syrian-German Technical Cooperation's Program for Sustainable Urban Development: Restoration of the Old City of Damascus Project. see our partners here
After series of successful restorations of Old Damascene sabils, the Week of Sabils aims to highlight the efforts of the Sabil Restoration Program, which is jointly led by the Governorate of Damascus, Department of Antiquities, Department of Awkaf, the Syrian-German Technical Cooperation, and two local NGOs, the Syrian Environmental Association and French Institute for Near East Studies.
The Week of Sabils features 7 days of events includes the inauguration of sabils, musical performances, art competition and an exhibitions and cultural lectures among many other interesting activities, all focused on the historical, social and cultural value of the old public fountains.
