2009-04-04 Aleppo's Greening campaign
The Directorate of Aleppo Old City confirms again its environmental commitment, working continuously to create a better environment for our beautiful city, and raising awareness towards the importance of trees and their traditional role in traditional houses as well as in the city itself.
On Saturday, 4th of April 2009, the City of Aleppo - the Directorate of the Old City in cooperation with the German Technical Cooperation GTZ, has organized the annual greening campaign through planting trees and flowers in the Old City.
Volunteers and Residents assembled together with the staff of the DOC in Al Mutanabi garden at - Bab Al Neirab, at 10:00 in the morning, and worked hand in hand to revive this garden and plant it with jasmine, roses, flowers and trees. Mayor of Aleppo Dr. Maan Al Chibli has participated personally in this annual celebration. Jasmine and roses planting has simultaneously taken place also in many houses in the neighborhood.
Representatives from the Aga Khan Foundation for Cultural Services, the Friends of the Aleppo Citadel , the Friends of the Environment, the Construction Contractors association branch in Aleppo, Future company for billboard advertisement, and Madaress Al Ibdaa (Montessori school), have all participated in this annual event.
