2008-11-4 Architecture and Identity

Goethe institute hosts  the opening ceremony of a photo exhibition with the title [Architecture and Identity- Traditional Residential Houses in Syria], viewing photographic pictures by:

  • Ikhlas Abbis
  • Karin Pütt
  • Juliane Jäger

The exhibition aims at showing the beauty and the use of traditional residential houses in Damascus, Aleppo and other rural cities in Syria, through showing the traditional architecture represented by internal yards, beautiful reception rooms and many other tremendous aspects of this architecture.
It also presents the international heritage of these cities with emphasis on the high living quality provided by their traditional houses.
The event will also give a live testimony by one of the original inhabitants of the city who is going to speak about his experience with living in a house with such a traditional design.

This event comes as a result of the cooperation between GOETHE institute, the German Technical Cooperation gtz, The German Archeology institute D.A.I, in addition to the German Academic Exchange Service DAAD, Museum for Islamic Art in Berlin, the Syrian Arab Airlines, and the whole activity is part of the "Damascus - Arabic Capital of Culture 2008" cultural program.
