2008-8-28 Urban planning methods training
A 9 day Urban planning methods training course took place in UDP`s Kusour office, addressing the MLAE Urban planners and developers. The course had no pre-scheduled program, in the sense that the module`s structure was open and flexible to the needs and necessities of the participants, and in the end, the lecture materials were generated by the queries of the participants.
Two lecturers were responsible for lecturing in this training course; Dr. Detlef Kallmayer and Dr. Saadalla Jabbour, Dr. Kallmayer was responsible for teaching the international approach in Urban planning to the participants, and giving them quick and rough tools to estimate important parameters in a settlement, in addition to teaching the participants some managerial tools for systematic thinking and planning. On the other side, Dr. Jabbour provided the participants with his local experiences and knowledge, showing them how the academic methods can fit in reality and give solid results on ground, and also he went through the new terms of reference issued by the MLAE on how to conduct a development study for an urban settlement.
