2008-10-18 Reception of the German Academy of Art

Maktab Anbar hosts on(Saturday 18th/Oct/2008) an informal visit by the Building department of the German Academy of Art as part of their visit to the Syrian Arab republic, this visit includes two visits to Syrian cities, the first is the old city of Damascus and the second is the old city of Aleppo.
This ceremony comes by the initiative of the Sustainable Urban Development Program which is conducted in cooperation between the German Technical Cooperation (gtz) and the Ministry of Local Administration and Environment and in coordination with the Syrian State Planning Commission.
The purpose of this gathering is to introduce the German building art Academics and experts to their Syrian peers, in order for them to exchange relevant opinions and thoughts, and to view the most important architectural criteria of the Damascus old city, in addition to discussing methodologies and approaches of rehabilitation and restoration that can assist in adding more and more glamour to the old city.
Some of the most prominent invited guests on the Syrian side are H.E the governor of Damascus city, the deputy governor of Damascus city, the head of the executive bureau in the governorate, members of the executive bureau, Director of the old city of Damascus, vice president of the Syrian engineers union syndicate, Representative of Damascus friends association and a group of elite Syrian experts from all relevant Syrian institutions.
Guests invited on the German side were Dr. Magdy Menshawy the director of the German house in Syria, Ms. Regina Kallmayer the project manager of the rehabilitation of the old city of Damascus, German academy of art guests and the gtz-UDP team and representatives of other German organizations such as DED, CIM, BGR, KFW.
This reception will be followed on the morning of (Sunday 19th/10/2008) by other activities of this informal visit represented by a tour in the old city of Damascus lead by Prof. Donata Valentina an experts in building art and Dr. Johans Odental the author of the most famous cultural guide about Syria.
