The Program for Sustainable Urban Development UDP is a joint undertaking of the (MLA) Ministry of Local Administration,  (SPC) State Planning Commission, (MoA) The Municipality of Aleppo ,(GoD) Governorate of Damascus, several other Syrian partner institutions and the German Technical Cooperation (GTZ) under the patronage of the German Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ).

The UDP is now in its second implementation phase which has started on 1st of November 2009, after a successful first phase which had started at August 2007.
The program as a whole  intends to promote capacities for sustainable urban management and development at both the national and local municipal levels. The GTZ and its partners have agreed on three projects as major fields for cooperation.

1. The rehabilitation of Damascus old city
2. Integrated urban management in Aleppo
3. National urban development policy and city networking

This website is the home for udp online. Here you can find information about the program, find out about the GTZ's contributions, get the latest news, read the newst issues of Urban Syria newsletter and learn about upcoming events. In addition, this website will be a hub for sharing tools and reports on the development of the urban sector in Syria. All interested individuals, researchers, and agencies are invited to participate in this exchange of information.
